Yislow's solo exhibition 《THE PRESENT》 will be held from January 27th to February 24th, 2024 at Gallery 'CDA' in Seongsu-dong located in Seongsu-dong. Through several exhibitions over the past four years, Yislow has built up a distinctive painterly language, including improvisational painting techniques, unique colors and textures, and character-driven screens. The exhibition will feature new works that speak of the 'present' using the artist's own pictorial grammar that she has accumulated over the years. Aiming for the most honest and natural paintings, the artist hopes to share with the viewer a diary of each painting that Islo has carefully kept.

이슬로 작가의 개인전 《THE PRESENT》 가 2024년 1월 27일부터 2월 24일까지 성수동에 위치한 갤러리 ‘CDA’에서 개최된다. 작가는 최근 4년간의 여러 전시를 통해 이슬로 특유의 회화적 언어, 이를테면 즉흥적인 페인팅 기법, 고유한 색감과 질감, 그리고 캐릭터가 강조되는 화면 등을 차곡차곡 쌓아왔다. 이번 전시는 그간 작가가 시나브로 축적했던 자신만의 그림 문법을 이용해 ‘현재(present)’를 이야기한 신작을 선보이는 자리가 될 예정이다. 가장 솔직하고 자연스러운 그림을 지향하며 이슬로가 정성스럽게 남긴 한 점 한 점의 그림일기를 관객과 공유하는 자리가 되길 희망한다.

이슬로 작가의 개인전 《THE PRESENT》 가 2024년 1월 27일부터 2월 24일까지 성수동에 위치한 갤러리 ‘CDA’에서 개최된다. 작가는 최근 4년간의 여러 전시를 통해 이슬로 특유의 회화적 언어, 이를테면 즉흥적인 페인팅 기법, 고유한 색감과 질감, 그리고 캐릭터가 강조되는 화면 등을 차곡차곡 쌓아왔다. 이번 전시는 그간 작가가 시나브로 축적했던 자신만의 그림 문법을 이용해 ‘현재(present)’를 이야기한 신작을 선보이는 자리가 될 예정이다. 가장 솔직하고 자연스러운 그림을 지향하며 이슬로가 정성스럽게 남긴 한 점 한 점의 그림일기를 관객과 공유하는 자리가 되길 희망한다.
Yislow's sixth solo exhibition, 《THE PRESENT》, is a showcase of new work that explores the artist's aesthetic search for the most honest and natural paintings with no embellishments. The artist's last three solo exhibitions, 《천진난만》, 《AMPERSAND》, and 《FRIENDS FRIENDS》 in Busan, where she introduced and explained where her work started, which media and subjects she was influenced by, and what painting techniques and grammar she uses to organize her work, this exhibition serves as an opportunity to read the direction and will of the artist's work using the materials she has introduced so far. The exhibition consists of a total of 26 paintings and a three-dimensional immersive space that graphically utilizes images of the artist's works, along with some of the art products(goods) that have been produced with the artist's images over the years, providing a diverse viewing experience. In addition, the artist's attitude towards the exhibition is reflected throughout the space, such as adjusting the eye level to a slightly lower adult standard.
For Yislow, this exhibition is the beginning of a journey into the essence of who she is as a person, as a woman, and as an artist, based on the unique pictorial grammar she has developed over the course of her career. It marks the beginning of a journey towards the essence of what she strives for as a human being, a woman, and an artist. In order to see herself in front of her works, unadorned, the artist focuses on the here and now and speaks carefully. The artist's works, which read like innocent drawings in a diary, invite us to observe the person we are today to observe more closely and care more deeply for today's me. I wanted to make the most natural painting possible.
To convey a marvelous message through my work, I felt that I shouldn't try to hide myself, nor should I try to glamorize myself. Whenever I felt the thirst to reach out, I imagined myself and my artwork standing alone in an empty space. standing in an empty space.
I exist, and I paint. Only this fact remains. When I look deeper, I see that no two days are the same, and the sensations I experience within them become a story. The process of the bridle, from my fingertips to the image, was repeated, and I thought that one day, after the repetition, there would be a clear definition. But all I could do was to keep asking questions and carefully record my questions and sensations in the work. I could do was to go about my day and let it flow into the next step at an imperceptibly slow pace to the next step.
By borrowing the appearance of all the 'LO' that are not clearly defined in the work, the new works are drawn as if opening a diary that contains the most natural and honest heart of Yislow, who lives in the present, which no one else can look into. (Written by YISLOW)

그림을 향한 작가의 미학적 고찰을 ‘현재’ 라는 키워드로 풀이한 신작을 선보이는 자리다. 작가는 지난 세 번의
개인전 《천진난만》, 《AMPERSAND》, 그리고 부산에서 개최했던 《FRIENDS FRIENDS》를 통해 자신의
작업이 어디서부터 시작해 어느 매체와 대상에게 영향을 받았으며, 이를 기반으로 어떤
회화적
기법과 문법으로 작품을 구성하고
있는지를 소개하고 설명하는 시간을 가졌다면, 이번 전시는 그간 소개되었던 재료들을
이용해 작가가 그려내고자 하는 작품의 방향이나 의지 따위를 읽을 수 있는 기회로 작용한다. 전시는 총 26점의 회화 작품과 자신의 작품
이미지를 그래픽으로 활용한 3차원 몰입형 공간으로 구성되며, 여기에 그동안 작가의 이미지로 생산된 여러 아트
상품(굿즈) 중 일부가 더해져 다채로운 관람 경험을 제공한다. 또한, 작품을 바라보는 눈높이를 성인 기준에서 조금 낮게 조절하는 등, 전시를 대하는 작가의 태도가 전시장
여기저기에 묻어있다.

가장 자연스러운 그림을 피워내고 싶었다.
작품을 통해 굉장한 메시지를 전하기 위해 나를 감추려고도, 그렇다고 나를 화려하게 꾸미려고도 하지 말아야겠다고 생각했다. 최대한 본원적인 것에 가닿고 싶다는 갈증을 느낄 때마다 아무것도 없는 빈 공간에 나 자신과 내가 그려낸 작품 단둘이 우뚝 서있는 모습이 떠올랐다.
내가 존재하고, 그림을 그려낸다. 이 사실만이 남았다. 더 자세히 들여다보면, 어느 하루도 똑같지 않은 매일의 광경이 있고 그 안에서 내가 겪는 감각들이 모여 이야기가 된다. 그리고 다시 손끝을 거쳐 이미지로 형상화되는 굴레의 과정이 반복됐다.
반복되는 과정을 지나면 언젠가는 뚜렷한 정의가 내려지는 건가 싶었지만 내가 할 수 있는 일은 꾸준히 질문을 던지고 내가 품은 물음과 감각을 작품 안에 꼼꼼히 기록하며 하루하루를 보내고 눈치채지 못할 정도의 느린 속도로 다음 스텝으로 흘러 넘어가는 것뿐이었다.
작품 안에서 뚜렷하게 정의되지 않는 모든 ‘로’들의 모습을 빌려 타인이 들여다볼 수 없었던, 현재를 살아가는 이슬로의 가장 자연스럽고 솔직한 마음을 담은 일기장을 펼쳐 보이듯 그려낸 신작들을 선보인다. (글. 이슬로)
